International drug ring crackdown and nine nabbed including two Nigerians

Police have seized more than RM5mil worth of drugs, including liquid cocaine, in raids in Kelantan, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur.

They also detained nine suspects, two of them Nigerians, in the operations on Sept 11 and Sept 12.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the drugs, except for the liquid cocaine, were imported from a neighbouring country and meant for the local market.

“The cocaine was imported from Brazil and meant to be exported to Thailand.

“We have been tracking the syndicates for quite some time,” he said during a press conference in Bukit Aman here Wednesday.

The other drugs seized included syabu, ganja and yaba pills.

Comm Mohd Mokhtar said the two Nigerians detained were believed responsible for bringing the cocaine from Brazil.

“We will not let the country be used as a transit point for drug syndicates.

“The recent successful raids were possible through close collaboration with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA),” he added.

Comm Mohd Mokhtar was speaking at what would be his last press conference as NCID director. He is set to take over as Bukit Aman Special Branch Department director effective Friday, Sept 15.
