Gunners fans were left angry by the Frenchman’s decision to substitute the 19-year-old during Saturday’s clash with Norwich City, but the decision immediately paid off
Arsenal fans booed Arsene Wenger’s decision to replace Alex Iwobi with Danny Welbeck during the clash with Norwich City on Saturday.
The Gunners had struggled to break down the visitors before Welbeck’s introduction and there was an expectation Olivier Giroud would be the man who would make way in the 56th minute.
But the fourth official displaying Iwobi’s number provoked jeers from the stands before Welbeck took to the field.
Wenger’s decision was justified, however, three minutes later when Giroud headed down Hector Bellerin’s cross to allow Welbeck to break the deadlock.
In the 12th minute, a section of Arsenal fans staged a protest against Wenger’s reign but they appeared to be in a minority.
Some fans also took the same opportunity to demonstrate their support for Wenger, and chants in favour of the French man broke out shortly after the original protest.
