A most magical story came to its climax today as Leicester City captain Wes Morgan lifted the Premier League trophy.
Having won the trophy off the field after Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea, the Foxes’ match against Everton on Saturday was the first time they’d appear on a pitch as champions.
“I feel very emotional right now – and a great sense of pride,” said Morgan. “Never in a million years did I ever believe I would be the captain of a Premier League winning team. That’s just me being honest.
“When I was at Forest I was just hoping that one day I might get to play a Premier League game! That is what makes it so incredible and so special I’m the happiest man in the world. I am the proudest man in the world; proud of my team and everyone involved in Leicester. I don’t want the ride to end.”
The party didn’t end because they had won the trophy, and Leicester still showcased the same quality football they played all season as they cruised past Everton 3-1. Jamie Vardy scored twice, and Andy King added another as the party continued.
