The Toffees want to take advantage of Manchester United’s hesitation in appointing the Portuguese to replace Louis van Gaal and will also target Southampton boss Ronald Koeman.

Everton have approached Jose Mourinho in an attempt to take advantage of Manchester United’s hesitation in appointing the Portuguese coach, according to the Sunday Times.

Mourinho features at the top of a shortlist of candidates the Toffees have compiled to replace Roberto Martinez, with Southampton boss Ronald Koeman also targeted.

The Times claim that Mourinho is unlikely to accept the offer and remains confident he will be named Louis van Gaal’s successor at Old Trafford this summer.
